Creative Seed
The quiet morning before the world wakes.
It is 6 AM. I’ve been sitting quietly, sipping lemon water with Celtic sea salt and honey.
I’m in my recliner chair, and Little Louie Luv is curled up on his little cat couch atop the bar table, gazing out at the world while he waits to go outside. For now, though, he’s sleeping.
He’s an early riser like I am, but once he has a little snack, he’s usually ready for another nap until he’s prepared to begin his day. Hartley, our other boy, is often ready a bit earlier than Louie. Soon they’ll both be outside, wandering through the garden, looking for lizards, finding patches of sun, and coming back throughout the day to nap and say hello.
Lola is always with me wherever I am.
Whether I’m cooking, making my morning drink, reading, or simply sitting quietly, I have the pure joy of this sweet little soul curled up near me.
I feel especially grateful during these quiet mornings. The world is awake, but not everyone in it. The squirrels begin stirring. The birds start their morning songs. The sun slowly rises, and another day begins.
Today, I want to explore my curiosity in a small way.
Lloyd and I have a beautiful hike planned this morning, and there are the usual chores waiting for me as well. Because of that, today’s kitchen adventure will be something simple and manageable. Not because it is less important, but because it fits the shape of the day.
Lately I’ve been realizing that curiosity, when given a direction, becomes creativity.
Whatever comes from my time in the kitchen today will be enjoyed twice: once in the making and once at the table.
For now, I have a few more minutes before I leave this comfortable spot. The sun is beginning to break through the gray clouds in sheets of light across the sky. It reminds me that the whole day still lies ahead.
When I think about where I’ve been, where I’ve come from, and where I am now, my heart fills with gratitude.
I don’t want this day to pass unnoticed.
So I take another sip of warm lemon water and quietly say:
Thank you, Lord, for another day.
I did not come here to persuade.
I came to share what I had learned,
and to leave the choosing in other hands.
